Whether you choose to get behind the wheel of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee or 2019 Grand Cherokee, you’ll get a five-person seating capacity, plenty of power, and a multitude of convenient tech and safety features, especially comparing Cherokee to the Ford Escape. When it comes time to make your final decision, which SUV will you take home to Omaha? Explore their differences in our Jeep Cherokee vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee comparison, below!

Configurations & Pricing: Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee

Opting for the new Jeep Cherokee, your starting MSRP will be $24,195, and you’ll have a choice of seven configurations: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk®, Trailhawk® Elite (4WD only), and Overland.

Or, if you’re more seriously considering the Grand Cherokee, your starting MSRP will be increased to $31,695, and you’ll have a choice of 12 configurations: Laredo, Laredo E, Upland, Altitude, Limited, Limited X, Trailhawk®, Overland, High Altitude, Summit, SRT®, and Trackhawk®.

The standard drivetrain on both Jeep SUVs is front-wheel drive, but if you’d like to have the peace of mind that comes with added traction on the streets of Bellevue, you’d be smart to upgrade to a Jeep brand 4×4 system, like Jeep Active Drive I.

Tech Features & Interior Space: Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee

You’ll find that the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are largely similar where interior features are concerned. Both SUVs are equipped with standard Uconnect® with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, and a 6-speaker audio setup.

While their interior features are comparable, their interior space is significantly different due to their difference in exterior dimensions:

  • Jeep Cherokee
    • 54.9 cubic feet behind the first row of seating
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee
    • 68.3 cubic feet behind the first row of seating

Towing & Performance Specs: Cherokee vs. Grand Cherokee

  • Jeep Cherokee: For the 2019 model year, Jeep has introduced an exciting new optional 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine to the Cherokee. It generates up to 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Or, you can choose from the standard 180-hp 2.4L 4-cylinder or a 271-hp 3.2L V6 engine. Your towing capacity in the Cherokee will range from 2,000 to 4,500 pounds, and you’ll get a 9-speed automatic transmission across all engines. For even greater performance, check out some of our favorite Jeep Cherokee performance parts.
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee: The base engine on the Grand Cherokee is a 295-hp 3.6L V6. That’s highly impressive for a standard engine, but you do have options if you desire even more power, like a 360-hp 5.7L V8, a 475-hp 6.4L V8, or a 707-hp 6.2L V8, available exclusively on the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk®. The Grand Cherokee offers a significantly higher towing capacity, coming in at a maximum of 7,200 pounds.
