How to Take the Doors Off a Jeep Wrangler

2021 Jeep Wrangler with No Doors

A new Jeep Wrangler is the perfect rig for those Council Bluffs drivers with an adventurous lifestyle! One of the many things that make the Jeep Wrangler unique is its removable parts that can enhance your overall driving experience. Here Edwards Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT explains how to take the doors off a Jeep Wrangler, and if you run into issues, contact our service team.

How To Take the Doors off of a Jeep

Start by folding the side mirrors and then rolling the windows down (if your model has windows) to protect the glass. Then, follow these steps to take apart your jeep and remove the doors:

  • Disconnect the power cables by removing the footwell under the dashboard or near the b-pillar. Remove the clip that attaches it so it will pop off.
  • Take off the door straps by gently lifting them off the hooks.
  • Slide off the bolt from the door hinges and gently slide your Jeep door off and away.
  • Repeat the steps with all the remaining doors.
  • Don’t forget to disable the door alarm. Start by detaching the negative lead from the battery and putting it aside. Then, remove the cover of the fuse box and look at the diagram of the fuses on the backside. Locate the Door Jam Defeat fuse and remove it with fuse clips or needle-nose pliers. Lastly, reconnect the negative lead to the battery.

Now you can enjoy a doorless ride around Omaha. Be sure you store your Jeep doors in a safe and dry place and keep the door hinges lubricated to make it easier to slide them on and off your Wrangler.

Why Would I Take the Doors off my Wrangler?

A Jeep Wrangler’s removable doors provide an enjoyable, immersive driving experience like no other. See what it feels like to be part of the elements while driving. Also, removing the doors improves fuel economy because your Wrangler weighs less.

How to Take a Top Off a Jeep

Of course, you might also want to know how to take the top off your Jeep, so you can more fully appreciate the off-road experience on Bellevue trails. We strongly recommend that you entrust a certified Jeep technician in our service department to remove your Jeep Wrangler’s top. If you attempt to remove it yourself, you risk permanently damaging it because it’s more complex to remove than the doors.
